Gay marriage is becoming a lesser controversial topic as more and more states move to legalize and now the majority of Americans support such a movement. It is clear that for the fundamental right of equality in the financial system (Taxes, insurance, etc) that gay marriage needs to be legalized. New Jersey is the most recent state and the Republican Governor already said he won't be moving forward with a case disputing the verdict - which is a sign of progress considering most of the opposition to gay marriage falls into the far-right/conservative republican party.
Another hot-button issue is the problem of Universal Healthcare as 'Obamacare' was recently deployed across the 50 states. Of course, anyone with any rational knows 'Obamacare' is not Universal Healthcare (at least nothing like the National Healthcare Service or any other comparable services provided throughout Europe) but it is a step forward for universal coverage. It's quite evident that single-payer healthcare systems work quite well compared to their counterparts (where millions are uninsured and get stuck in debt due to increasing medical costs).
Your first topic is interesting and timely. Given everything that has arisen recently, I think you could have a lot to draw upon for crafting an essay that makes your argument.
ReplyDeleteGay rights and marriage is another good topic. You should be able to find a lot. Also, given that Illinois finally just passed marriage equality, it would be a timely argument.
"Obamacare"...oh how I've hated that phrase until only recently when I decided to just ignore the way ignorant people use the term as a slur. Anywho, another good topic. There's a lot on EITHER side right now, especially with the technical snafus and such.
Great topics all around! I'm interested to see what you choose!
